Training & Support

The North Wales Adoption Service is committed to offering ongoing support to all of our adoptive families. We run a regional Adoption Support Group and these are some of the training courses we run on a regular basis. For more information please do not hesitate to contact us –

Preparing to adopt –

The 4 day training course is compulsory and will give you the opportunity to gain information and to think through some of the issues which you are likely to encounter if you adopt a child.

Attachment and Trauma Training –

This is a 1 day training course for prospective & approved adopters. The course will provide you with a –

  • Basic understanding of Attachment Theory,
  • Explain the nature of play and its importance,
  • Understand the importance of the impact of trauma on the developing brain
  • To explore parenting theories and strategies

Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders –

This training is to help raise awareness of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and positive techniques for parenting a child on the spectrum.

Education and Attachment –

This workshop is for prospective and approved adopters to gain an overview of a practical guide to working with schools and understanding attachment issues within a school context.

Friends & Relatives training –

This course is a chance for grandparents, adult family members and friends to understand more about modern adoption, have an opportunity to share their own feelings, hopes and fears Look at ways of supporting the adoptive family.
